Solar Tea

This Solar Tea recipe is so very simple to create and requires zero electricity. The recipe is actually more of a blueprint and is designed to spark your herbal imagination. Pick a few herbs that are growing in your backyard or balcony and make your own version!

There are two wonderful aspects of this recipe: 1) the endless possibilities for herbal blends are a way to get creative while harnessing the power of botanicals and 2) it uses the power of the sun to brew, so no need for cooking or solar panels, for that matter. All you need is a big jar and a sunny day!

Solar Tea Variation

  • 2 TB Yerba Mate (for an uplifting version) OR Nettles (for a nourishing version)

  • 2 TB Lemon Balm (dried or fresh)

  • 1.5 TB Mint of choice (dried or fresh)

  • 1.5 TB Hibiscus Flower

  • 1 Liter cold, filtered water

Combine all the ingredients in a large jar, cover and place in a super sunny spot for 2-4 hours. Strain and either drink warm or chill for an hour. Also takes great with a splash of sparkling water and lemon juice. Enjoy!

TIP: use this recipe while on road trips or camping. Prepare the herbs with cold water in a big jar, go for a hike and when you come back hydrate yourself with your specially made brew! *inspired by my teacher: herbalist, midwife, and medical doctor, Aviva Romm, M.D.
